So, for those of you that are of a European persuasion, I'll be wandering about Germany the next couple of weeks, ending up in Berlin, giving a talk about Frederick the Great at the German Historical Museum on June 24. Come see me! Since I won't be having my computing devices with me, however, I won't be able to update the site, so here are your next three episodes in one concentrated shot!
The Malleus Maleficarum is an interesting book. It reads something like a Pokedex, in that it gives you this very intricate series of rules and countermeasures, all of which are entirely made up. These are men who thought long and hard about devil semen and exactly how it works, much as others agonize for hours over the ethics of putting cuddly little Raichu in a spherical prison when it's not acting as your personal battle slave. The crucial difference being that nobody has ever been brutally murdered at the hands of their community on the charge of Being a Psyduck. At least not yet.
